Living the Charge of the Goddess: All Acts of Love & Pleasure Are Her Rituals
This coourse was created by Rev. Teri Ciacchi and Rev. Sarah Heartsong
“Listen to the words of the Great Mother, Who of old was called Artemis, Astarte, Dione, Melusine, Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Diana, Arionrhod, Brigid, and by many other names:Whenever you have need of anything, once a month, and better it be when the moon is full, you shall assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of Me Who is Queen of all the Wise…. Sing, feast, dance, make music and love, all in My Presence, for Mine is the ecstasy of the spirit and Mine also is joy on earth…”
The Charge of the Goddess written by Doreen Valiente as part of Gardnerian Witchcraft can be used as a guide for daily spiritual practice. This beautiful and complex piece of Pagan liturgy can help each of us see ourselves as an embodiment of the Goddess. We’ll talk about how to amplify self-love, and self-acceptance. We will look into the language of the charge and use it to invoke the sensuous presence of Divinity in our everyday experiences. Praise the Goddess as Yourself! Blessed Be!
Recipe for an Autonomous Punk Yoniverse: “Art Sluts” in the Kitchen
This class was created by with Teri Ciacchi, M.S.W. & Carrie Lanza, M.S.W. and first taught on
Saturday March 3rd 2012 11:30am Seattle, WA
at the Women Who Rock UnConference March 2 & 3rd 2012 Seattle, WA
From 1984-1986 in Columbia, MO, Five young women, a kitchen table and conversations about art, music and relationships generated a vibrant community of alternative musicians, artists, and performance venues that continues today. The only all girl punk performance about art, music and relationships generated a vibrant community of alternative musicians, artists, and performance venues that continues today. The only all girl punk performance art band in the Midwest at the time, “Art Sluts” held art parties that quickly grew into public performances, political demonstrations, zines, radio shows, and other media. “Art Sluts” used punk rock as a platform for creating public spectacles centered on their female bodies and physical desires as a form of political activism. DIY projects in fashion, gynecology, herbal medicines, and ritual practices originated in this gestalt.
We’ll gather in the kitchen of Washington Hall and listen to two “Art Sluts” songs (“Art Sluts Theme Song” & “Contraceptives Are a Bore”) and have a conversation about how women gathering in kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms to talk about their yonis and reproductive health is critical not only to their well-being but also to their creative processes. We will consider the parallel feminist hysteries of movements in DIY reproductive health care and Indy music and envision a fertile future for both.
Goals of Workshop:
a. Identify issues central to women’s lives, particularly in relationship to their reproductive health.
1. Discuss strategies for accessing and disseminating accurate information regarding reproductive health employing the performing arts and media.
2. Explore venues and media formats for public expression of women’s “private” experiences that may lead to community building & increased access to resources for DIY solutions to women’s holistic well-being.
